Aitor Ortiz
Aitor Ortiz, born 1971 in Bilbao, has been honored with the "Villa de Madrid" photography award in 1999. His works are included in several private and public collections, among them the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. The Guggenheim Bilbao had also chosen this young artist to accompany the construction process with his photographic documentation. Not only in Europe, but also in the United States and in China his work has been presented.
 
His big sized photographs are hard to categorize. They seem to be architectural sights, but at the second glance, they appear rather non-factual and not realistic in the common meaning. Their strange foreignness irritates the viewer. The showed buildings and rooms are reduced to such an extent to their elemental structure, that they do not seem being able to be inhabited. As timeless, moreover speechless constructions, they gain a new metaphoric significance. The monumental esthetic of the architectural structure comes through visual perception to spirituality and eternity.
